You Might Be an Extremist if You Oppose Homosexual Marriage

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) placed Dr. Ben Carson on its list of extremists. Since others on the list include neo-Nazis and white supremacists, one might wonder what extremist views he holds. He actually had the audacity to oppose homosexual “marriage.” He appeared on the Hannity program aired by Fox News. On March 26, 2013 he said:

Marriage is between a man and a woman. It’s a well-established pillar of society, and no group—be they gays, be they NAMBLA [North American Man/Boy Love Association, a group advocating pedophilia], be they people who believe in bestiality (it doesn’t matter what they are)—they don’t get to change the definition.

Is he not stating what every Christian believes on the subject? Have we not repeatedly pointed out that marriage was invented by God and that it is His institution? Is it not the case that Jesus called attention to the fact that God created one woman for one man for life (Matt. 19:3-6; Gen. 2:18-24)? God both created and defined marriage. Two (or more) homosexuals may want to call their relationship marriage; the government and courts may join in such foolishness, but two people cannot be married in actuality unless God joins the two together. And He does not join together two homosexuals. He cannot and will not authorize such pairings despite what society wants. Carson also wrote (along with his wife, Candy) in his 2012 book, America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great, that if

we can redefine marriage as between two men or two women or any other way based on social pressures as opposed to between a man and a woman, we will continue to redefine it in any way that we wish, which is a slippery slope with a disastrous ending, as witnessed in the dramatic fall of the Roman Empire.

Opposing homosexual “marriage” is apparently as bad as being a white supremacist, according to the SPLC, but this past week they removed Carson from their “extremist watch list” and apologized to the potential GOP 2016 presidential candidate for putting him on it for his “anti-LGBT” views. Notice the reason they removed him:

“This week, as we’ve come under intense criticism…so, we’ve reviewed our profile and have concluded that it did not meet our standards, so we have taken it down and apologized to Dr. Carson for having posted it,” the SPLC wrote in a statement. “We laud Dr. Carson for his many contributions to medicine and his philanthropic work, and we, like so many others, are inspired by his personal story.”

Public pressure got Carson’s name removed from the extremist list, but their true feelings are seen in their original action. This is the way liberals feel about Christians or anyone else who upholds the Biblical definition of marriage. They think we are extremists. Now they actually know better than that, but this is their visceral reaction to anyone who disagrees with them. They are so convinced that they are right on this issue—based on what principle or basis?

Christians have a foundation for what they believe that goes back to the beginning of the human race. It is founded upon no less a book than the Bible, recognized by most people to be the Word of God. What is the basis for homosexual “marriage”? Primarily, it is only wishful thinking.
