“We Atheists Use Reason”
A seminar was conducted a few weeks ago in the Orlando area, sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Atheists, humanists, homosexuals, transgenders, Buddhists, Hindus, and some denominational "clergy" were all involved. Most of what was said was nothing more than dilapidated drivel. One Hindu said he discovered he was a homosexual in kindergarten. Really? Most children do not know which direction is right and which is left in kindergarten; they have to be taught.
But the most fallacious (not to mention humorous) comment of the day was, "We atheists use reason." The only appropriate response (after one stops laughing) is, "No, you don't." The humorous element in this statement is the claim that atheists actually use reason. Reason does not look at the available evidence and conclude that God does not exist. "The fool has said in his heart, 'There is no God\\…'" (Ps. 14:1). Let's face it: Wisdom is not an atheist's strong suit. "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament shows His handiwork" (Ps. 19:1). Yet the atheist surveys all the vastness of the universe, as well as all the intricacies of it, and concludes: "Accident!" Is this the way reason works?
What is so ironic is that God invented logic and reason. He invited His own people: "Come now, and let us reason together" (Isa. 1:18). John wrote His gospel to supply abundant evidence so that people would believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (John 20:30-31). People did not follow a man who had been put to death in as humiliating a manner as possible (indicating contempt for Him and His crimes) out of sentiment. If anything, it probably became that much harder to convince people to follow Jesus. Only the Holy Spirit-inspired apostles and the miracles He did through them could have convinced multitudes of the truth of the gospel. This is called evidence!
The problem with the atheist's statement is that many in the "Christian" community would agree with him that faith is irrational, divorced from logic. Such men are themselves irrational, and they are doing no favors to God or to Jesus by agreeing with foolish men. They are incompetent—blind leaders of the blind.
One other comment the atheist made was that the atheistic community is compassionate toward homosexuals. No, they're not. Telling someone he is all right when his behavior is wrong and condemned by God is not compassion. The compassionate thing is to show someone his sin, as defined by the Creator of mankind, and urge him to repent.
