The Significance of the Latest Gallup Poll
Released on June 8, 2021 was the newest poll regarding the attitude of Americans toward same-sex marriages. Before mentioning how many approve such a situation, it ought to be noted that every percentage point favoring homosexual marriage is also one against the Bible—whether people realize it or not. The Bible condemns homosexuality, period—let alone two of the same sex "marrying." God's disposition toward it is as clear as any sin that could be named. In fact, it is condemned under all three dispensations in which people have lived:
- The patriarchal system (Gen. 18:20; 19:4-5).
- The Mosaic system (Lev. 20:13).
- The Christian system (Rom. 1:21-28).
Therefore, to be in favor of homosexual marriage is to oppose the Bible. Does such a statement seem blunt? Stark? Jesus said, "He who is not with Me is against Me…" (Matt. 12:30). No one can call himself a Christian and advocate the very opposite of what Jesus stands for. Such is not possible. Anyone who opposes the morality God teaches in His Word is His enemy. No one needs to be a Jeopardy champion to figure this out.
Does the Bible teach that stealing is wrong? Yes. Does the Bible teach that adultery is wrong? Yes. So, if the majority of people find those sins acceptable, are they not opposing God? Then why would the support of homosexuality be any different? Those who support homosexual marriage at one and the same time, then, oppose God and the Scriptures that the Holy Spirit inspired. Those who advocate any sin possess an unholy spirit. So, what are the latest statistics?
In 1997, less than 30% of the population approved of homosexual "marriage." This number steadily rises to 60% in 2015 when the Supreme Court legalized it. In just six years, acceptance has reached the 70% level. The poll that reveals these current statistics was taken from May 3rd to the 18th. Will the numbers climb even higher? They could a few points, but too many people believe the Bible for it to increase much more.
How did this change come about? It occurred because of relentless promotion of the news and entertainment media that began back in the '90s. Add to this the constant bombardment that the nation's youth have received in public education. Schools don't teach knowledge. Some students can still work math problems, and a few have developed language skills, but give someone a quiz concerning important historical facts, and it is amazing what people don't know because they have never been taught it. Public education has turned into a state propaganda outlet—especially as it regards morality. Universities are among the worst, shouting down anyone who is not "politically correct," but nearly all schools are infected.
How Bad Is It?
As proof of the public school's influence, the level of acceptance for young adults in the survey is 84%. How worried should we be? The fact that so many approve what is obviously a perversion is disturbing. One wonders how long it will take pedophilia to become accepted. "Hah! Never!" you say? The same would have been said of homosexuality just 50 years ago. Concerning homosexual "marriage," it has only taken 24 years to move from 27% approval to 70%. If Hollywood gets behind pedophilia, its acceptance could soar in a few decades, also.
"But that's just too gross!" Is it? What if it could be shown that these people can't help it because they were "born that way"? What if we begin seeing movies sympathetic to those who have such "problems"? What if prominent biologists, psychiatrists, and television personalities start lamenting the plight of those who practice pedophilia? What if a prominent actor kills himself because people will not accept him for who he is? Or what if some vigilantes kill someone who then becomes a martyr? The politically correct have already demonstrated that they can take the grotesque and make it acceptable. How sure is anyone that they could also not gain acceptance for those even more perverted?
Other sins have already been accepted. It is estimated that during prohibition only 30% of the population drank alcoholic beverages. For years now, the average has been about 70%—even though approximately 95,000 alcoholics die each year (about 261 people every day). On average, each one of them would have lived another 29 years, which means that nearly three million years of potential life is lost each year.
About 70% of people also accept couples living together outside of marriage (the same percentage as those who actually do). The Scriptures call such a practice fornication—and they condemn such an "arrangement" (Heb. 13:4). Not only does the general public approve of sex outside of marriage, even some church members have engaged in the practice—not to mention a few preachers' children! This too is an attack against the Scriptures. One may as well sign one of the Humanist Manifestos and attack Christianity all the way. Living in such an arrangement and fancying oneself to be a Christian is both absurd and hypocritical.
The acceptance of sin on the part of society should not be shocking. Did not Jesus state that the majority of people will be lost? The broad way leads to destruction, "and there are many who go in by it." The narrow gate is difficult to enter, but it "leads to life, and there are few who find it" (Matt. 7:13-14). Those who practice or approve of fornication, adultery, or homosexuality are on the broad way to destruction. Anyone traveling this road who values his soul should repent immediately.
