The Future of “Christian” Organizations on College Campuses
No one needed to be a psychic to see this one coming: College groups espousing Christian values are headed for expulsion, and Rollins College here in Orlando is proof of it. In fact, the rather large headline on section B1 (continued on B3) of the March 8th Orlando Sentinel is “Rollins Boots Religious Group, Says It Violates Anti-Bias Policy.” This article sits side by side with the previous one on fraudulent psychics, and the “Rollins” conclusion is positioned directly above the one concerning “Psychics” on the inside page.
Prior to the new pope’s recent appointment, the news media was abuzz with speculation as to whether he might be more in tune to modern concerns. That is to say, would he relent and change the Catholic Church’s position on abortion and homosexual marriage? Some no-longer-practicing Catholics hinted that they might return if only the church would listen to the pleas of those who want that religious group to change. How foolish to think that the Catholic Church would be anything other than what it is!
What some people fail to understand is that a few religious groups have standards. The Roman Catholic Church has it correct on abortion and on some things relating to homosexuality, but they are wrong on others (particularly, their approval of the consumption of alcoholic beverages). They are not likely to change any of their positions in the near future.
Those who follow the Bible in its entirety know God will not change His definitions of morality and purity—regardless of what the world thinks. He did not change it prior to the Flood to accept violence and immoral imaginations (Gen 6:5, 11). He did not change it for Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 18:16-19:28). He did not bend His morality to include Herod; John told him in no uncertain terms that it was not lawful for him to have his brother’s wife (Mark 6:17-18). God does not defile holiness to accommodate the lustful desires of men.
God cannot reverse Himself on homosexual “marriage” because no such thing exists with any kind of Divine approval. The practice of homosexuality itself is a perversion that is “against nature” and is included among “vile passions” (Rom. 1:26). One can scarcely expect to see the word marriage included along with ”homosexual” any more than one would expect to see an organization titled: The Drunkards Sobriety Foundation or The Modest Nudist Association. God defined marriage in Genesis 2 as being one woman for one man for life. He does not authorize marriage, which He invented, to be defined by any other arrangement.
The problem with humankind is that they want to sin and have God’s approval in the process—something which will never work. God is eternal; man is just flesh; who is going to win this battle in the long run? No matter what advances the enemies of God think they have gained, they have only heaped up more condemnation upon themselves. All will stand before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account for the things they did in the body (2 Cor. 5:10). No liberal professors will be allowed to defend them. Neither the news nor the entertainment media will have any influence over God. All that will be necessary for Him to do is to say, “Have you not read: Genesis 19, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:18-28, or Jude 7? The information was there and available to you; what is your excuse?” Silence.
But for the time being, governments and universities also have laws, and they do not match God’s. They can take wrong actions, although they will be called to account for what they do. They can exclude any “Christian” that in some measure adheres to Christian standards from certain privileges. One such group can no longer receive funding at Rollins, nor can they recruit members because they are now in violation of the schools’ anti-discrimination policy. Notice that the Christian group in question has not changed it principles or values; the college has.
One would not expect a homosexual to be an officer in a “Christian” organization any more than someone unscripturally divorced and remarried or a student that was constantly drunk or a coed that appeared in the Sports Illustrated February Swimsuit edition. Christianity concerns holiness, righteousness, and godliness; by its very nature it cannot endorse that which is immoral and ungodly. So at least one group has lost official status, but this is only the beginning. For the time being, students can meet on the campus for Bible studies and other religious activities, but who knows how long that will last?
How long will it be until those guilty of perversion ban together to get God thrown out of college life altogether? We do not need to consult Peaches in order to make an educated guess. Student-run groups at Vanderbilt have been under assault. What will it take—five more years before we read of a headline that says: “God Expelled from the University”? That would please the collegiate elite, most of whom share the same anti-religious values. We read constantly of professors who denigrate religion (such as the one from the University of Central Florida, whose e-mails we recently shared) or like the Florida professor who told students to write the name of Jesus on a piece of paper, set it on the floor, and then stomp on it. Any religious group on campus that desires to uphold Biblical standards is now going to be a target.
Who will be the next recipient of wrath—churches? It would not be surprising that they would be required to agree with the state’s position on morality or else give up their tax exempt status. We should not think that the anti-Christian, pro-homosexuality zealots would not attempt to bring this about. Their goal has never been to have equal rights but rather to demand social approval for their shameful practices. We might begin preparing for (possibly) a world-wide persecution over this matter.
