Owen Cosgrove, on page one of Biblical Ethics, edited by Terry Hightower for Shenandoah’s 1992 lectureship, wrote of sermon topics that nobody will ever hear preached, such as (some of these have been modified):

The Uselessness of Prayer.

Sleeping Late is More Important Than the Lord’s Supper.

Ignoring the Elders and Doing as You Please.

Better to be Rich and Wicked Than to be Poor and Righteous.

My Time is Too Valuable to Attend Bible Class.

A Little Smoking, Drinking, and Nudity Never Hurt Anybody.

My Money is Spent on the Bills First And the Lord Afterward.

A preacher would be fired for preaching such tripe. “But brethren, we preach by the way we live” (1). Ouch!
