Proud of Sin?
Last week's Spiritual Perspectives showed the way our community "leaders" think on moral issues. This is just another example; only it comes from the advice columnist, "Ask Amy" (Orlando Sentinel B7), published October 5, 2017. A father wrote to her with a bit of a problem. When people ask about his two daughters, and he tells them that one is a trans-gendered male, they don't seem to know how to respond. Apparently he thinks that folks should be tickled pink (or is it blue?) over the sex change.
He was taken aback when one woman "was so disoriented that she kept repeating, 'She is now a male\…?!'" He asks how to deal with people like this woman, who do not understand (or approve) of the situation? Some of us are not as confused as this woman. We can just politely say, "Such a transformation is not Biblical." In his case, since his daughter was in the military, I might first ask, "Did the government (that is, us taxpayers) foot the bill?"
He closes by saying how proud he is of both his children. Would he be as delighted if one of them were a hooker or a thief? Changing genders is nowhere authorized in the Scriptures. To change one's gender is the same as saying, "God made a mistake when He made me." How could attempting to change one's gender be a proper thing to do when God forbade the Israelites to even cross dress? "A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God" (Deut. 22:5).
Of course, Amy was all agog with the concept. She did caution him that he did not need to inform anyone about the sex change; he could, if someone asked how the girls were, say they are all right. She then adds that saying they are all right "happens to be true." Not really. One participant in this field reports an increased number of males particularly who regret the decision and are changing back. Apparently Amy is either not aware of this fact or is ignoring it in her rush to support aberrations and perversions.
She closes her column by saying, "Our perceptions are changing, one conversation at a time." Public acceptance, if there is such, has probably occurred by the insistence that everything is all right. When Israel went after Canaanite deities and committed immoral acts in the process, the number of people accepting it did not make it right. God still counted idolatry as wrong, and He raised up the Babylonians to take them captive for their "enlightened" thinking. One hundred columnists seeking to uphold the "wisdom" of this age does not change the Word of God. The only way to prevent a societal shift is for Christians to encourage more and more people to study the Bible. Man's wisdom cannot save and provides no meaning for life. Only God can.
