The IRS does not want churches to use their voices to support or oppose political candidates. Some brethren take a dim view of it, also. But how is that logically possible in today's world? Oh, it is simple enough not to mention anyone's name or party affiliation. But when various moral issues are dealt with, the implication remains. For example, Christians believe that abortion takes the life of an innocent, unborn child. Can they vote for candidates which support the killing of more than 70 million babies? Frankly, your congenial editor does not see how. Likewise, Christians should not vote for homosexuals or those who support homosexual marriage. The country needs leaders who will uphold Biblical morality rather than those who thumb their nose at it. Christians cannot stop promoting morality just because a moral issue has also become a political one.
What is the purpose of government? If we look at what our own government is doing, we might come up with several ideas in answering that question. But what do the Scriptures teach? In the Bible, we see that governments wage wars. But beyond that, what is a government's purpose? One primary concern is to protect its citizens, which includes putting to death murderers (Rom. 13:4). According to the Internet, in 2000, 85 inmates were executed. In 2021, only 11 were put to death, and in 2022, only 18. How many people are murdered each year? In 2022, a total of 21,156 people were murdered. The ratio regarding appropriate punishment is less than 1 out of .01%. Not 1%--but .01%. This is sad.
All national (or local, either) candidates (including especially District Attorneys) should be rejected if they will not enforce our laws that were designed for the protection of the populace. Anyone who wanted to defund the police should immediately be rejected as a candidate. And while it may be an overlap, it is also the case that those who refuse to protect our borders by allowing thousands of illegals to cross (or even flying them across) must be rejected as leaders. Consider what has been discovered about the recent murder in Athens, Georgia. Jose Antonio Ibarra of Venezuela entered the country illegally at El Paso, Texas in 2022. He had legal problems in New York City prior to moving to Athens. He beat to death Laken Hope Riley, age 22, on February 22, 2024. She was a nursing student at the University of Georgia.
The reader may be reminded of a similar event from 2015 when Kate Steinle, age 32, was struck by a bullet from a gun in the hands of another illegal alien—one who had been deported 5 times! Kate's Law, which would strengthen our immigration laws has, amazingly, never been passed. Why do national leaders not want to protect the citizens of this country? If the safety of U. S. citizens is not a priority of local and national officials, voters must take action at the ballot box.
