More on Heroes
As pointed out last week, some have attempted to elevate the murderer of the United Healthcare CEO to the status of hero, which is absurd on the face of it. Heroes do not shoot non-combatants down on a public sidewalk. Yes, there are assassins, but their targets are not civilians, and those operations are not generally carried out in public. Furthermore, they were authorized by a military and are not the result of one man who fancies himself as judge, jury, and executioner. The perpetrator of the crime, however, does need to (and probably will) appear before a judge and jury to receive a fair trial, during which evidence will be presented and a verdict will be rendered. In other words, the “suspect” will take advantage of all the civil rights he denied his victim.
Many have seen the confrontation of Piers Morgan with ex-Washington Post reporter, Taylor Lorenz. Below is a portion of that exchange. She said: “I do believe in the sanctity of life, and I think that’s why I felt, along with so many other Americans, joy, unfortunately.” A little later in the interview the following exchange occurred (first Morgan, then Lorenz).
“We’re watching the footage—how can this make you joyful? He’s a husband, he’s a father, and he’s being gunned down in the middle of Manhattan,” Morgan continued, while Lorenz talked in the background. “Why does that make you joyful?”
“So are the tens of thousands of Americans—innocent Americans—who died because greedy health insurance executives, like this one, push policies of denying care to the most vulnerable people.”
Have people been denied legitimate claims? Yes. Health insurance companies are not in business for humanitarian purposes—to keep people constantly healthy. They are in business to make money. Undoubtedly, they receive a lot of bogus claims from people trying to take advantage of them. Therefore, some legitimate claims will most likely be turned down. Options might include informing the public, protesting, initiating reforms, or hiring a lawyer. But killing the CEO is not one of them. Does it grate upon people that he earned $10,000,000 a year? Sure. He probably can’t even catch a football.
Taylor Lorenz said she believed in the sanctity of human life. Will she admit that it is all right to gun down abortion doctors, who literally do kill thousands of innocent lives? “But abortion is legal.” It may be, but it is still murder, so far as God is concerned. Legal or not, over 1,000,000 abortions took place in 2023. Does Lorenz really want to justify murder?
