Fewer Irish Eyes Will Be Smiling
The nation of Ireland has taken a turn for the worse. Like so many other nations, they have now legalized murder. The headline on page A9 of the Sunday, May 27, 2018 Orlando Sentinel, says it all: "Voters in Ireland Repeal Abortion Ban in Landslide." In the accompanying picture, people are smiling and cheering, as if they had been liberated from Hitler instead of now being free to kill infants. It's the latest reminder that: "He [or in this case, She] who trusts in his [her] own heart is a fool…." (Pr. 28:26).
In America, Roe v. Wade was decided before most Americans knew it was before the court. Few were informed enough to know much about the situation in 1973—especially those on that now-infamous court. But Ireland has had 45 years to discover that abortion stops a beating heart. Therefore, they have no excuse for nearly two-thirds of its citizens voting in favor of death for infants. As the newspaper points out, pregnant women will be given a choice; they neglect to say that the child will have no voice whatsoever. The current Prime Minister, an obvious dud, said it was a "once in a generation vote" that showed concern "for the next generation." No, what they have done will probably affect every generation in Ireland from henceforth, making it smaller. How close has America come in eradicating the practice in 45 years? Does anyone anticipate change any time soon? Our government is still financing Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in this nation.
The usual insipid comments were in evidence. The vote is a "rejection of an Ireland that treated women as second-class citizens." Barf. So motherhood makes women second-class citizens? The truth is that this decision makes infants no-class citizens. Their rights (and very likely, their lives) now will have no status whatsoever. If the mother chooses to kill the child, she will be able to do so legally. Neither the child nor any individual with so much as an ounce of compassion will be able to prevent it.
Apparently, the Catholic Church in Ireland is losing control of its adherents because they have been opposed to the practice. However, Irish girls have for decades traveled to Britain for an abortion; so it is not as though this is a sudden change. But one wonders, "How can one be a Catholic and deny the Church's teaching against abortion?" Somehow they do it. But perhaps Catholicism will change their views to accompany the thinking of the times. The Lord's church will not. We will stand for the truth regardless of the way anyone else responds to it. Jesus said the majority of people would be lost (Matt. 7:13-14). When two-thirds of a nation votes in favor of murder, it's easy to see why.
