Deacons

Deacons must be reverent, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not greedy for money, holding the mystery of the faith with a pure conscience, tested and blameless, the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well. Their goal should be to serve well (1 Tim. 3:8-10,12-13).

The wives of both elders and deacons must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things. These are the qualifications God wants in those who serve the local congregation. And they are what members have in order to evaluate each person. One not need to be an elder or a deacon to serve the congregation. Singles, marrieds without children, and widows may likewise be servants—known for their good deeds.
