QUESTION: Does the Bible contain any information concerning the subject of abortion? I ask because my friend does not see anything wrong with the procedure.

ANSWER: January 22, 1973 marks the blackest day of American history. On that day nine justices of the Supreme Court, appropriately donned in robes of black ruled 7 to 2 in the case of “Roe v. Wade” that a woman had the right to kill her unborn child! Since that day, almost 50 years ago, our nation has murdered in excess of 62,000,000 innocent babies! The mother’s WOMB has become the baby’s TOMB! Legalized abortion is pure unadulterated hedonism. We have developed an entire generation where, if the life of a child is inconvenient, don’t worry, be happy, and kill the baby!

In the beginning, Genesis chapters 1 and 2, God created man and did so “in the image of God” (Gen. 1:26-27). God spoke to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Before I formed thee in the womb, I knew thee…” (Jeremiah 1:5). The prophet was known to God before he was even born. It is known that God “hates hands that shed innocent blood…” (Proverbs 6:16-19). The Law of Moses stated: “Cursed is the one who takes a bribe to slay an innocent person” (Deuteronomy 27:25). God’s Word has given some very apt descriptions of abortionists and abortion clinics.

This past month multiplied millions of Christmas trees were decorated and many were topped with a star or an angel. Many pro-death clinics pretend they do not like abortion, but argue they simply provide a service. More and more they are admitting the truth. They like their profession and the money it provides. Some want to shove it in the face of anyone who is pro-life. One provider, “Clinics for Abortion and Reproductive Excellence” (C.A.R.E.), boasted online they are one of the few “clinics in the nation” to provide 2nd and 3rd trimester “abortion care.” One CARE executive was so proud of their “care” that he took a picture of the office Christmas tree. The picture emphasized the topper. It was neither an angel nor a star—but two sopher clamps. I admit that I had to look that one up. Medical catalogues give the following description: “with suction complete, look for your sopher clamp. This instrument is about 13 inches long…a grasping instrument, with rows of sharp ridges or teeth. The instrument is for grasping and crushing. When it gets hold of something it does not let go.” The CARE unit tweeted this message: “It is literally impossible to top our topper…” They literally glory in death.

It was the Lord Jesus Christ that taught plainly, “And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise” (Luke 6:31; cf. Matthew 7:12). Contrast that thought with what takes place in abortion clinics worldwide! We have been charged to “…abhor what is evil, and cleave to what is good…” (Rom. 12:9). Abortion on demand as practiced in our nation stands at the height of evil; and remember that evil spelled backwards is to LIVE! The opposite of evil is LIFE! May God forgive us for our stupidity as a nation and have mercy upon our souls.

[Editor’s Note: Brother Whitlock’s short article says a great deal. When the United States falls, a large contributing factor will undoubtedly be the ruling handed down in Roe v. Wade. Even the woman designated as Roe repented of being used in this case and has adopted the pro-life position. Even an abortion clinic owner in Dallas admitted about 30 years ago that she made more than six figures a year doing abortions (see the next page). She too repented and joined the pro-life cause. Dr. Bernard Nathanson, who helped start NARAL, also repented and pleaded eloquently for all doctors, as well as others, to “stop the killing.”

The following, thought-provoking poem was written by someone affiliated with the pro-life movement. It well expresses the sadness of abortion and the loss of human life.
