Malala Yousafzai, mentioned on page 3, boarded a school bus (in Pakistan) on October 9, 2012. Shortly thereafter, according to Wikipedia, a man with a colt 45 asked for her by name and shot at her three times, hitting her once. The bullet traveled through her forehead, lodging in her shoulder. She survived and has become the symbol for freedom of education for women. Her story has been recorded in the best-selling book, I Am Malala.
