Amendments 3 and 4

Share

This is a good news/bad news situation. The bad news is that for Amendment 3 (legalizing recreational marijuana) nearly 56% of the public voted yes; 44% voted no. Amendment 4 was about the same; slightly more than 57% voted in favor of the liberal abortion proposal while almost 43% voted against it. The reason that both amendments were defeated was that an amendment requires a 60% majority; that's the good news. Florida is safe—but for how long? With both amendments being so close to the 60% requirement, how long will it be until both appear on another ballot and pass? The enemies of morality keep pushing until they win. How many times were gambling casinos defeated in various states before finally passing?

Money. Lots of money. All kinds of money. According to one source, about 90 million dollars was spent in the effort to legalize marijuana, and about 15 million was spent to encourage voters to vote no. The public should ask itself, "Who is spending that much money to legalize marijuana? Why are they doing so?" Could it be someone expects to make beaucoups of bucks if it passes? According to another source, Rick Scott spent nearly 40 million to be re-elected senator. Yet more than twice that was spent to get one amendment passed. Hmm. One source lists $70 million being spent to pass the abortion amendment. Proponents have already boasted that they will keep fighting until it is passed.

Lies, lies, lies. Supporters of both amendments climbed into bed with the devil to spread lies about what the amendment would do and what would happen if they were not passed. In modern-day society, truth is a casualty; a majority of people are living by the philosophy that "the end justifies the means." The reasoning becomes, "If we tell a few lies and spread propaganda around, it's all right—if it helps us win." This philosophy is born from another of Satan's tools—pride. The thinking of some is: "We know what's best for the American public (just like 'educators' know what's better for children than their parents), and whatever is necessary to get our agenda through is acceptable—even if we must use lies to secure victory."

So, what should Christians do now? We do not have the resources to outspend the opposition. We need to continue to spread the facts, chief of which is that the human life in the womb is a person. Luke 1:41, 44 and 2:12, 16 proves that. In Genesis 25:23 two nations were in Rebekah's womb. They were not only human beings—but heads of nations. Abortion terminates a human life. If we are not educated about the effects of marijuana, we should research and arm ourselves with information. Most of all, however, we should be evangelistic. One of the good effects of becoming a Christian is that fewer people will be following the devil, the "god of this world." We need more people who have escaped the world to follow Jesus.
